Lauterbrunnen is one of Europe's most iconic valleys — 300 m granite walls, 72 waterfalls, and the Jungfrau massif overhead. It's also the BASE jumping capital of the world. For licensed skydivers, the nearest skydiving drop zones are Swiss Boogie in Kappelen (~60 km) and DZ47 in Grenchen (~80 km), both in the Bernese Mittelland north of the Alps.

Swiss Boogie is Switzerland's largest DZ and an ideal base for a full weekend of jumps while staying in the Lauterbrunnen valley. The DZ runs multiple aircraft, hosts regular organised loads and boogie events, and has on-site camping for overnight stays. DZ47 is a slightly longer drive but offers fast Pilatus PC-6 lifts and a strong freefly community.

Both DZs welcome visiting international jumpers with all FAI-recognised licences. Bring your current logbook and licence card. A check-jump may be required on your first visit or after a long break.

Licensed Skydivers near Lauterbrunnen — FAQ

No certified skydiving operation runs directly in the Lauterbrunnen valley — the narrow terrain and restricted airspace make it unsuitable for aircraft-based skydiving. Lauterbrunnen is, however, the world capital of BASE jumping, which is a separate sport requiring its own experience and certifications. For licensed skydiving, Swiss Boogie (~60 km north) and DZ47 (~80 km north) are the nearest options in the open Bernese Mittelland.
By car, drive north from Lauterbrunnen via Interlaken and the A6 motorway toward Bern, then follow signs for Kappelen — the total journey is approximately 60 km and takes around 55–65 minutes. There is no direct public transport to the airfield; most visiting jumpers rent a car or arrange a carpool with other skydivers staying in the area. Arriving early (by 9 am) on weekends is recommended to get on the first loads.
Swiss Boogie sits in the Bernese Mittelland with panoramic views toward the Bernese Alps on clear days. On a good-visibility day, you can see the Eiger (3,967 m), Mönch (4,107 m), and Jungfrau (4,158 m) from altitude — all the peaks that loom above Lauterbrunnen. It's a uniquely dramatic backdrop for a freefall. The DZ itself is flat and spacious, with a very forgiving landing area.
Wingsuit skydiving is available at Swiss Boogie, subject to normal experience requirements (typically 200+ jumps and recent wingsuit-specific currency). Note that wingsuit BASE jumping in the Lauterbrunnen valley is a completely separate activity with its own strict entry requirements — do not confuse the two.
