Grindelwald's Drop Zone Options for Licensed Jumpers

Grindelwald sits deep in the Bernese Oberland at 1,034 m above sea level, surrounded by some of Europe's most dramatic mountain scenery. While there is no airstrip in the immediate valley, Swiss Boogie in Kappelen (~65 km) and DZ47 in Grenchen (~85 km) offer full-service skydiving operations reachable by car in under 90 minutes.

Swiss Boogie is Switzerland's largest drop zone and particularly popular with visiting skydivers — multiple aircraft on weekend operations, a wide landing area, on-site bar and camping, and an active freefly and RW community. The Bernese Midlands DZ gives you clear-sky views back toward the Alps you've just been hiking under. DZ47 adds a closer, faster-paced alternative with the iconic Pilatus Porter.

Both DZs accept all FAI-recognised foreign licences. Bring your logbook and licence card. A check-jump may be required on your first visit or after a 90+ day break in currency.

Licensed Skydivers near Grindelwald — FAQ

On a clear day, the entire Bernese Alps panorama — Eiger (3,967 m), Mönch (4,107 m), and Jungfrau (4,158 m) — is visible from altitude during lifts from Swiss Boogie in Kappelen. The DZ sits in the Bernese Mittelland with a direct sightline to the high Alps to the south. It's one of the most impressive Alpine views available from any Swiss drop zone on a good-visibility day.
Swiss DZs typically operate from April through October/November, weather permitting. The summer months (June–August) offer the best consistency, though thunderstorm afternoons are common in July and August — early starts are recommended. Outside the main season, check with the individual DZ as operations may be limited to weekends or special events only.
Many skydivers visiting the Grindelwald / Interlaken area plan a jump day at Swiss Boogie as part of their trip. The DZ is about 65 km north of Grindelwald — a scenic drive through Interlaken and the Bernese Mittelland. An early start (arrive by 9 am) allows multiple jumps before returning to the mountains in the afternoon. The DZ offers camping for those who want to make a full weekend of it.
Swiss Boogie and DZ47 both support freefly, RW/formation, angle flying, and canopy piloting. Swiss Boogie is particularly good for wingsuit flyers due to its large landing area and experienced community. DZ47 has a strong head-down freefly scene. Check with the DZ in advance about coach availability if you need supervised jumps in a specific discipline.
